Everyone needs a Quilting Friend in their life like my friend Nancy!

Okay....so we decide we are going to make eye covers for ourselves so we can sleep at night. We take these pictures...Nancy is freaking out that she doesn't have any lipstick on.. "Okay...girlfriend let's get some lipstick!"Okay...we've got the lipstick. Now I insist we need a scarf or something for our double chins!! But that didn't work out.So...its time to try them on.Beautiful!And finally....we figure out how to take a picture of both of us. We still need the scarves!!! Ain't getting old fun??

Now I must tell you about my dearest, best friend. I'm not sure where I would be without her. We met at a women's bible study in the po'dunk little town of Sandy Valley Nevada. We fellowhsipped together on Sunday mornings for years and the biggest thing Nancy has taught me is how to learn to pray audibly anywhere, anytime, anyhow. I will never forget when we were driving down the zigzag one afternoon and I was in tears over one of the kids.  She grabs my hand while she is driving and says..."Let's pray." And she did. I think it was the most lovely prayer I've ever heard in my life. She is a Prayer Warrior and I wish all of you could have a friend in your life like her. She came in to my life at a very sad time for me spiritually and I know she was the angel God sent that I needed so badly! I love you Nanc!!

This was such a fun quilt to make. We did it as a Block of The Month and ended up taking 70 sign-ups on it. Thanks to all of you  great gals for making it  along with me. I hope all of you  got yours done!! Would love for you to post comments or pictures of yours....especially the ladies who did it in the dark colors. If any of you quilters have never made a 'House' quilt, you must! They are so fun. Most of this quilt was pieced. I am working on a new design....it will be a "Christmas House Quilt" I hope to have it done by the end of the year. I will keep you up dated with the progress. Everyone needs a dear friend like Marla. In a pinch when we were desperately needing a new version of my Whimsy Lane pattern she made up this quilt for me as well as a new Meet Me In Paris. (I'll post pictures later of that one.) I don't know where I would be without all of her help. All of you customers out there can thank her for the fine tuning of my patterns. And on top of all of this....she is just an extra specially nice person, with an equally adorable and giving husband. He made me a stunning wooden box for my quilting supplies and brought it to the store for me one day!

It's a beautiful sunny day here in Panguitch. I've been in the studio working on my new applique project. I can't wait to get it finished to see what all of you awesome quilters out there think about it. I will be posting pictures of the work in progress this week!
This weekend was spent with my darling daughter-in-law and her three little ones. We were determined to get two little jackets made for the girls. But in between running around after them, snacks, tears, and the little one crying we weren't able to get them finished. However we did get them cut out, as well as the backing and batting. We finished assembling the front pieces and the back pieces. Mel courageously took them home to finish them. I felt bad that we didn't get more done on them, but as she was at the door leaving she told me the place she gets hung up is in the cutting out. So hopefully soon, I will be able to post pictures of the girls modeling their new fashion wares.For the time being, here are some pictures of us working in the studio, as well as the two little girls sewing and pinning their own creations.

In all fairness....they did watch cartoons in grandma's bed really well, while mom and grandma sewed!

Its a great evening for quilting! I am determined to burn the midnight oil tonight and get rid of these winter blues that have been consuming me of late. There's nothing like diving in and just putting in some good ole hard work to pick up one's spirits. We leave for our Yuma Quilt Show in less than 2 weeks and I so want to have a new pattern for the ladies down there. So to the Quilting Studio I go!

The Irish Chain Quilt top I lost for 3 years but found after one of our moves. I am going to add to it and make it a king-size for our Master Bedroom. One of the all-time favorite quilts I have made.

Happy New Year

Snow is softly falling outside...2009 is receding into the background of yesteryear. Every December in my personal journals I reflect back on the year and write out the lessons learned, obstacles subdued, obstacles not subdued and try to make some sense of the passing of time. It is amazing to me when I get down on myself and feel like I haven't accomplished enough physically, spiritually and mentally that upon reflection there has been some major growth. I thank the Lord for his keeping power in all of the twists and turns of life this last year. I hope everyone has an amazing 2010. Happy New Year!

This was an amazing Meet Me In Paris quilt from one of our customers that was hanging at the Home Machine Quilting Show in Sandy (2007) that won Teacher's Choice. The quilting on it was amazing!

Tory showing off her truck before she wrapped it around a tree and the Jaws of Life had to get her out of it. Ken was only a few minutes behind her coming home from a show. He freaked out, backed up and convinced the cop that he was her Dad and to let him through. He said never before had he experienced the feeling he did here when he saw her truck and didn't know if she was dead or alive. This is the darling child that always keeps up guessing!

Wow...I've finally started a blog! This blog is dedicated to all of our wonderful customers out there who have made The Scrappy Appleyard what it is today. Without you and your support we couldn't have become what we are today.

As 2010 starts we are hoping to share with you, what it is like being on the road, with all its ups and downs, sharing with you the wonderful people we meet as well as what it is like to run a Quilt Shoppe and also what I do as a designer to get my inspiration. Sprinkled with this and that of what is going on in the family seeing you have met most of them on the road. We hope to tickle your fancy, keep you inspired in your own projects and become closer as a Quilting Family as we take this journey together!
