Final Borders on Buttercream Summer

And one border is done!

And now I see that I need to design something for the 4 corners!
It does leave some amazing space for some awesome quilting....
but I'm afraid it won't be balanced if I don't draw something up to put in there.

So everyone who has signed up until now...
will get the 11th Month Free!

I wanted to show another part of the design process with this border.
After thinking it was done...
I looked at the pot base...
Which at first had no satin stitching.
It needed to be filled in....

So back to the drawing board ...
to see what I can come up with for the corners!

Happy Stitching!

I'm Back!!!

Whew!
What a few weeks it has been.
10 to 12 people in the household
at all times.

I have been working behind the scenes though...
Above is the final border that is going on all
four sides of
Buttercream Summer
to finish it!

Here are some of the
in-process pics...
And I've been steadily working at
Parisian Summer...
Above I started out with one color of thread
for the 'writing...
then tried another...
Only to rip out both...
and start completely over...
with a thread that was a color way
in between the two...
Ain't pickin' fun???!!!
Now about what else has been happening around here
the last few weeks...
Lots of cooking and family dinners...
Nights of Jamming...

Little one reading Shabby Chic while daddy plays guitar!
The Guitar Man serenading us with Miss Emily trying to play along...

There were Scrabble games on the terrace...
I was accused of cheating when I bumped the board when it was all coming to an end and I was losing.
Can you believe that?

 Teaching Miss Emily to sew...

Little one had to get in on this though...
Future Quilters???
Finally Mama came...
And hauled him away...

But he was always coming back...
Getting into Grandma's fabric paints...
Who me???

Priceless pics...
There were days at the lake,
shopping down Main Streets,
lunches at cafes
and all in all we had a great time.

But now I must say...
the peace and quiet after 3 weeks...
is pure bliss!

Back to the pile of work waiting for me...

FINALLY!!! The Inner Workings of Buttercream Summer is Done!!

Okay Ladies....
You have been following me for almost a year now,
while I have been designing this quilt.

And finally,
the main part of the quilt is completed.
It will have one more large border
all the way around it
with embroidery...
flowers...scrolls....vines...

When I took the last stitch this morning on
the burgundy border...
I was thinking about when I began this journey.
I had NO idea...
this quilt was going to end up like this!
So take it from me....
When you get a spark of inspiration...
go with it....
and ask for guidance.
I can't tell you
the prayers,
the tears,
and the joys,
that were stitched into this quilt.

And all of you...
have made the journey even sweeter.
So thank you!

Now to finish
the writing instructions.
It is one thing to make a quilt like this...
It is quite another to write the instructions...
so other people can make it too.

So off to Starbucks I go.
I'm going to need some caffeine for this one!
P.S......You should see what my studio looks like now! Frightful!

Do You Ever Have To Just Dive In and Clean Up Your Studio?

Am I the only one who sometimes
just can't take it anymore?

And has to take the time to get it all cleaned up...
before taking another stitch?
All the different pieces I have been working with to put Buttercream Summer together sorted out...
Or maybe the rest of you just don't make a mess like I do in the first place!

The Final Sketch for Buttercream Summer up on Wall

And a little taste of what has been going on in this messy studio the past few weeks...

So please let me know....
Am I the only messy sewer out there???

And what do ya think of Buttercream Summer
in it's final stages before the last and final embroidered border?

Back to work gals...

John'aLee.....Where have you been???

I know that is what some of you are wondering!

I'm here!
Just been workin' night and day...

trying to get the next Mystery Block
done in both
Buttercream Summer
and Parisian Summer.

Add on that a few shows...
in a few different states...

and there you have it.
The above block is
The Grandmother's Flower Garden piece
that took me forever to complete.

Here are some close ups:
I was super pleased with how
this one turned out.
It's the Guitar Man's favorite so far!

And finally...
the eight block in Buttercream Summer is finished.

This one I had problems with.
Drawings for Buttercream Summer 's 8th block: Sew Seeds of Friendship!

Finished Drawing

Close up of Teacup Full of Seeds
Sometimes...
drawings can look good on paper...
but once it goes to cloth and thread...
things change.
It may be only one thing that doesn't
work...
and puts the whole thing in disarray.
In this block...
the vine needs to be closer to the pole.
I've changed it in the drawings for the pattern...
but still have to take out a lot of that satin stitch
and redo it in this block.
Ain't designin' fun???

Sew Seeds of Friendship
And in the shoppe...
the main man...
has been working away...

We are leaving for Paducah
early in the morning!

Hope to see some of you there!

I will post about my Chicago show...
later this week.

Thanks for not signing me off!!
